I’m Not An Idiot *Wink*

About five weeks ago, I announced here that I thought the selection of Sarah Palin as McCain’s VP was different. I still think it is, so no changes there; I was – and maybe still am – intrigued.

While I wasn’t at first was offended,  maybe now I am. Sarah Palin seemed like someone who could finally relate to me and I liked that, but what was initially relatable has turned toward being laughable.

After hearing the same lines over and over about how she can relate to the middle class (which I was surprised to find makes $250K/year – what?), referring to all of us in that demographic as “hockey moms” and “Joe six-packs,” well, I’m tired of it. I joke about being white trash, but when someone else calls me that, I don’t like it very much.

Craig voiced what I wanted to. He’s already being disagreed with, but no matter; I think it fits. And I think those of us who fit a demographic of being intellectually-minded lower middle class, who maybe have some leftward leanings but still aren’t ready to give up this issue of life yet, just have no options this year. Maybe we never have; when I was 18 I just didn’t realize it.

Is it naive to think a third party really could rise up and be heard? I guess I’m a bit surprised it hasn’t happened already. But what do I know? I’m sitting on the couch folding my kids’ hockey jerseys and throwing back some brewskies.

I am including some info about her income is from the AP. I just thought it was interesting. Her income, while certainly not small, is far less than the others. I want to kick them all out and start over.
Republican John McCain’s campaign says Sarah and Todd Palin had a gross income of nearly $170,000 last year and paid nearly $25,000 in taxes.
The campaign also says the couple made nearly $130,000 and paid about $12,000 in taxes in 2006.
McCain’s campaign released the joint income tax return Friday for his vice presidential nominee and her husband.
The couple donated more than $8,000 to charity over two years.
Their income jump from 2006 to 2007 resulted from the salary increase when Sarah Palin became Alaska’s governor.

You crack my stuff up girl. I totally agree. I went to bed last night and told Jason that I think both canidates must secretly be hoping not to win in this mess. I wouldn’t want it. I feel so out of sorts right now.
I really don’t care what she makes…. I just wish I had another choice. I can’t relate to her, she wears make-up and has had her hair done. I can’t even get mine brushed these days.
But relating to me doesn’t matter, I hope I never can truly relate with politicans. Is that cynical or what…..?

Well, the Palin’s salary doesn’t bother me at all– but I am so with you on that vp debate. I got sick of all of the “common man” rhetoric. I looked at Spencer and said, “Is it just me, or is Biden doing a much better job here?”
And then I was so surprised when the pundits said that she won the debate. I guess style trumps substance.
But in this case, I didn’t even like her style.

Oh yeah, I don’t care what she makes either. I didn’t think *she* made $250K/year – I about fell off of my hockey-jersey-folding couch when I heard Biden say the middle class makes $250K/year. Wow. I’m in the wrong middle. *grin*
Anyway, that’s that. I’m ready for it all to be over.

You made me laugh out loud! But, with your writing and education, aren’t you and Craig part of the intellectual elite?
Personally, I am trying to become middle class!

Biden actually said the middle class makes $250K a year? I could MAYBE agree with that in California or New Hampshire or someplace where a starter home costs a quarter-million, but I can’t even imagine what I’d do with $250K a year. Good grief, I didn’t realize how far down the middle-class totem pole we were.
