I noticed the beginning of this just yesterday – a bird flew out of the mailbox and it had a twig in its beak. I glanced inside the box and noticed a few leaves and twigs that weren’t there before, but not very many and I thought maybe the bird was beginning to build a nest there but figured it would figure out pretty soon that that area gets too much traffic and move on.

Today Millie pulled the mail out of the box and with it came a pretty large handful of leaves. I went over again and noticed a significantly larger amount of twigs and leaves lining the bottom of the box.

This bird means business.

What am I to do here? Either I need to clean this out in a hurry so the bird gets the message to build elsewhere, or I need to put a sign on the mailbox explaining what’s going on and leave a basket for the mail below. Part of me wants to avoid the hassle and just clean it out and part of me is really super interested in seeing how this whole thing goes down.

So. What would you do here?
