We’re not big coffee drinkers; in fact, Craig isn’t a coffee drinker at all, and I’m still in process (I consider myself to be a social (coffee) drinker). So we have the free Gevalia pot for when we have company or when I do something unusual and get up really early (and incidentally, I always, always, always have to look up the measurement on the Internet; I have no idea why I can’t remember how much coffee to put in to make a pot). In short, the pot wasn’t getting used very much.
Enter the tea idea. I figured if you could make coffee in a coffee pot, why not tea? I fill the coffee thing with water, take a bag of my favorite tea and put it in the (what’s that called – pot? pitcher?) glass part that pours, and push the “on” button.
The tea steeps as it goes and one bag makes a whole pot of tea. What’s more, my two oldest kids know how to make tea in the coffee pot, so when they want some (and we are raising them to be hot tea drinkers), they just go in there and make it happen.
Sure, I may be the last one on the planet to think to do this, but that’s okay. I’m posting it anyway.

My husband does this as well, except he puts loose tea in the filter instead of coffee. Since he prefers loose tea, it is quick & easy & he doesn’t end up with floaties in his tea!

I never thought of this. What a great idea.
We taught our oldest daughter how to make coffee—grinding the beans and everything. She doesn’t drink it, though. I started drinking it when I was 16 and wouldn’t be shocked if she did the same.

I did this when we recently stayed in a hotel – our room had a small coffee pot. I liked it, too! Mmm – ginger peach tea sounds lovely.

Take it a step further and make iced tea and melt the sugar! Put a cup (gasp!) of sugar in the pot, brew with 4 little bags or 2 large bags. You can use Lipton or some lipton, some flavored tea, I like raspberry tea. The sugar in the bottom of the pot melts and it tastes like southern tea, that is how they make it, melting the sugar instead of disolving it. Pour the pot into a pitcher with ice and viola. Technically, hot tea should be brewed with water just at the boil point and coffee brewers are never that hot. But it works for you!!!!!

And 16 to start driking coffee. I’m shocked! what took you so long?
I’ll never forget my boys were in their early teans and we ordered 4 coffees after dinner at a restaurant. The perky waitress quipped “don’t you know coffee will stunt your, umm…(side glance at my rather tall and hefty sons) uhhh .. never mind”
BUT, here’s the best part. My younger son has become more than a tea drinker – he loves to try different teas and is on the search for the perfect chai. He has watched me drink tea his whole life, and has enjoyed a few cups over the years. But NOW, my 27 year old seargant in the army discusses tea with me, and likes to make me tea or have me make him tea. 🙂 (sorry, kind of long for a comment, huh? Guess I just miss both of those guys and you made me nostalgic)

I live in Texas. (the south) I have made tea in my Mr. Coffee pot for years. I saw a ‘tea’ maker by Mr. Coffee at Wal*Mart years ago and thought why the heck do you need a special maker…just use the one machine all ready sitting out on the counter.

I am not a huge coffee fan either. I drink it every morning now, but just recently started doing that. My husband is a huge coffee drinker, so I guess after all these years it finally rubbed off on me.

Okay, I’d love to do this, but it isn’t clear: WHERE exactly do I put the tea? How much water? How many tea bags? Loose tea w/ filters? Teabags in basket? I love my tes steeped in boiling water, so this may not work, but I’ll give it a try…
